Although one of the youngest distilleries in Scotland, starting life in 2015, Kingsbarns Distillery has already proved itself to be the producer of some of the best spirit in the country. Situated just half an hour away from us along the coast, the distillery produces a wonderful collection of whisky and gin. It makes for a great place to visit, where you can see the hard work which goes into each bottle, and even enjoy some yourself after a tour.
Tours of Kingsbarns Distillery are popular, so make sure you book online before you travel to avoid any disappointment. They offer a range of tours which focus on different aspects of their business.
For gin lovers, there are also plenty of gin tours as well. These include Darnley’s Gin School where you can become a distiller for the day! Create your very own and unique gin – pefect as a gift or to enjoy when you get back to your Woodside apartment.
If you can’t make it to the distillery (or don’t want to carry heavy bottles about with you all day!) you can always buy a range of their drinks from their website. This is a great idea to do after you have visited, and have an idea about what you like and what your friends and family would like too. What a great place to stay! Just a five minute drive to St Andrews town centre and the golf courses. We stayed in the Tack Room which was a wonderfully presented large, one-bedroom self-catering apartment with the bedroom upstairs on a mezzanine floor overlooking the lounge. It had big picture windows which enjoyed fantastic views towards the sea. The bathroom was basically a wet room with a lovely walk in shower and everything was spotlessly clean. The well appointed kitchen was at the rear of the lounge and there was a table and chairs to sit down for meals. The lounge had two sofas and a flat screen tv on the wall. Linda, our host, met us shortly after we arrived and was lovely and had already recommended restaurants for us which were wonderful. I would really recommend staying here.
