Outlander locations near St Andrews
Are you an Outlander fan? Of course, you are! Who wouldn’t love a romantic time-travel adventure, set amongst the beautiful landscapes of Scotland? This book and drama series has everything; Love, history, action, beauty and mystery. And what’s more, the TV show is filmed all over Scotland. For those staying in our holiday apartments in Fife, we’ve put together this handy list of Outlander locations near us. So, fans can visit the actual places where filming took place. All of these sites are no more than an hour’s drive from your base at Woodside, St Andrews.
The Reaper, Anstruther
The Reaper is our closest Outlander attraction, just a 25-minute drive from Woodside. This iconic fishing vessel featured in series 2 of the Outlander drama series, as the boat that took Claire and Jamie to France. She is now berthed in Anstruther Harbour, as part of the Scottish Fisheries Museum.
Falkland village and palace
The village of Falkland stood in for Inverness in series 1 and 2 of Outlander, and a cellar in Falkland Palace was also used as an apothecary in series 2. The cellar room has now been fitted out as an interactive apothecary exhibition, which you can visit during a tour of the palace.
Dysart Harbour
Dysart Harbour in Kirkaldy became the French port of Le Havre for filming at the beginning of series 2.
Aberdour Castle
Aberdour Castle doubled as a Benedictine monastery, Abbey Ste Anne de Beaupre, in series 1. You can visit and explore the building, thought to be the oldest standing stone castle in Scotland.
Culross village
Furthest from Woodside on our list, Culross is about an hour’s drive from here. But it’s well worth the trip for any Outlander fan. Lots of locations around this historic village were used in series 1 and 4 of Outlander.
