When you say the name ‘St Andrews’, often the first thing that springs to mind is golf. That’s because it was here, 600 years ago, that the game was first played. And the amazing thing about this is that you can play on the same course today and feel that connection to the past. St Andrews Links is the oldest golf course in the world, and is available for everyone to play on. This isn’t so much a tourist attraction, more a pilgrimage for golf lovers the world over. Quite simply, St Andrews Links is a golfing experience like no other.
It may seem unbelievable, but the Old Course is still being played today, and everyone is eligible for a round here! Players must enter a ballot which is usually drawn two days ahead. So whilst you cannot be guaranteed a tee time during your visit, you will get daily chances to win one. Doing it this way makes the course open to all players, wherever they come from. Of course, there’s more to St Andrews Links than just the Old Course. There are other classic courses to play on too, including The Castle Course and New Course. All of these courses can be booked in advance online on the Links website. You won’t be able to turn up on the day and play without booking.
