The St Andrews Town and Gown Walk is a town centre walk, which passes through university buildings and takes in plenty of local history. It is a nice, gentle route on good paths and takes around 2 hours to complete. The starting point is in St Andrews town centre, which is a 10-minute drive from your accommodation at Woodside. If you’re interested in history, architecture and golf, this is the walk for you! The pleasant walk in St Andrews town centre is named after the gown worn by students of St Andrews University. The walking route passes by the harbour and pier, and if you find yourself here on a Sunday at midday during term time, look out for students in their red gowns walking out onto the pier for the traditional pier walk.
The Town and Gown walk is very popular, as it is relatively easy and takes in the spectacular architecture of our historic university town. The route passes by many famous landmarks in St Andrews. This includes the iconic Old Course, the oldest golf course in the world, and the attractive ruins of St Andrews Castle and Cathedral. It also takes you past several beautiful university buildings, such as St Salvator’s College and St Mary’s Quadrangle.
Would recommend without hesitation the self catering holiday experience at this property. Such thought and care for guests is exceptional in all aspects from welcome to departure, nothing seemed too much trouble for the owners of this beautiful property. We had a wonderful stay.
